US Envoy Emphasizes the Importance of Pak-US Collaboration in IT & Telecom

The IT and Telecom sector is developing at a rapid pace and the countries that will be advanced in this will hold the key to the future. In this regard, US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome stressed the importance of expanding Pakistani and US cooperation in information technology and telecommunications. The US Ambassador made these remarks during a meeting with Federal Secretary of IT and Telecommunications Syed Aminul Haque.

During the meeting, the minister welcomed the US ambassador to his office and discussed IT and telecommunications issues of mutual concern. Mohsin Mushtaq, the additional secretary (in-charge) of MoITT, also attended the meeting.

Speaking to the US ambassador, the federal minister of IT stated that Pakistan’s IT and telecom sectors offer significant potential for US technology companies. In addition to strengthening ties between companies, he stated that there was an urgent need to strengthen Pak-US cooperation in the IT and telecom sector.

He stated that more than 70 connectivity projects totaling Rs 65 billion are currently under construction to ensure connectivity across the country. Haque stated that the Personal Data Protection Act and the Social Media Rules are business friendly and both bills will be sent to the appropriate forums for approval within three to four weeks.

United States Ambassador Blome stated that Pakistan was gaining prominence in the world of technology. Other officials present at the meeting include Member IT Syed Junaid Imam and DG International Coordination Syed Jawwad Ali.
