Sony’s next compact smartphone lineup is poised to welcome a new member, the Xperia 5 V. The Sony Xperia 5 V recently appeared on Geekbench and revealed a few specs. If the Geekbench listing is legit, the upcoming Xperia phone will likely feature 16GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.
Sony Xperia 5 V is tipped as a compact phone
If we remember the previous Xperia handsets, the compact versions of Sony’s Xperia phones are mostly powered by the same chipset. Although they have the same memory and storage and have the same camera array, which is exactly what’s on the latest full-size flagship Xperia phone.
The point worth noting is that the Kalama motherboard listed on the Geekbench is also part of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series and the Xiaomi Mi 13 Pro. So we expect the Xperia 5 V to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and will come with Android 13 pre-installed.
The Geekbench listings also revealed that the model number of the Sony 5 V will be XQ-DQ72. However, we still have quite a few months before Sony unveils the Xperia 5 V. There is no doubt that we will see many more leaks and rumors about the phone.

We think the Xperia 5 V will continue to use a 6.1-inch OLED panel with FHD+ 1080p resolution. It is expected to have a 120Hz refresh rate. The compact smartphone has a 5000 mAh battery to keep the lights on. On paper Sony’s phones look pretty good and they even have a 3.5mm headphone jack. So let’s wait and see what else Sony has to offer for its upcoming compact variant.
