PM expresses dissatisfaction with the performance of the Special Technology Zones Authority

According to a report, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the Special Technology Zones Authority. While chairing a high-level conference discussing the Special Technology Zones Authority, he stated that the waste of the country’s current resources is unacceptable.

In addition, the Prime Minister established a committee headed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to make the Authority a functioning body. The committee will consist of the Ministers of Information Technology, Law and Investment, the Prime Minister’s adviser Ahad Cheema, Senator Afnanullah and the CDA chairman. In a week’s time, the committee is due to present its recommendations for activating the Special Technology Zones Authority, under the Prime Minister’s direction.

In addition, he ordered the activation of the Board of Directors of the Authority and ensured that it consisted of specialists. The prime minister was told that there are already 400 companies registered in special technology zones, 63% of which are Pakistani and the others from China, the United States, Turkey and other countries.

The meeting was also updated on the Board of Directors of the Authority and other matters. The Prime Minister stated that the talented youth of the country support themselves in the IT industry. Instead of investing in land plots, he instructed the authority to focus on technology development, which is its primary goal.

The Prime Minister stated that he will not tolerate any further delays in the reform of the Special Technology Zones Authority and the implementation of measures to make it functional. In addition, the Prime Minister said that in its time, PML-N has laid the foundation for teaching skills to the youth to improve IT exports, and that millions of people made a living from the laptops distributed to the youth during the global outbreak of the coronavirus.
