OPPO will launch its own SoC in 2024

Many smartphone companies have already introduced their own chips to gain more control over the processing and computational models of their devices. Now OPPO is working on launching its own SoC in 2024. The company already has its own NPU MariSilicon X and a connectivity chip called MariSilicon Y, but it still lacks a real SoC.

According to a MediaTek executive, speaking at a foreign investment forum in Hsinchu, Taiwan, OPPO wants to have a real chipset to maintain its competitive edge. An insider revealed that the company has already taped their chip, which will hit the market in 2024.

Taping out is a term in electronics design meaning that the integrated circuit design process has already been completed. The product is ready to go into production.

The conference taking place in Hsinchu is no coincidence. It is the city in northwestern Taiwan where TSMC has its headquarters. We also have no information about the manufacturer partner.

Earlier reports have already revealed that Oppo has invested more than CNY 10 billion (about $1.4 billion) in establishing IC design centers across China, including Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai.
