For those away from home, the San Francisco-based company released the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT late last year as a web version for public use. This AI chatbot uses natural language processing to conduct human-like conversations, answer questions, and compose various written content such as emails, articles, essays, social media posts, and code.
In May 2023, OpenAI first rolled out its ChatGPT app to iPhone and iPad users in the US. The ChatGPT iOS app is now available in 152 countries and regions. You can view the list here.
Currently, Android users must visit the ChatGPT website in a web browser for instant answers. With the launch of the ChatGPT Android app, it is no longer necessary to visit the website to access the AI chatbot.
The description of the ChatGPT Android app on the Google Play Store states that it’s a free official app that “syncs your history across devices and brings you the latest model improvements from OpenAI.”
According to the Data Safety section in the Play Store, the app may collect data such as location, personal information (name, email address, phone number), and other in-app messages. The app may also collect data about app performance, diagnostics, app interactions, and other user-generated content.
OpenAI has the ChatGPT app in the Google Play Store with a ‘Register’ button. Interested users can use this option to pre-order the app. Once the app is available, these users can install it on their Android devices. The listing also allows users to ‘unsubscribe’.
HOW TO PRE-REGIST FOR THE CHATGPT ANDROID APP:
- Open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
- Browse or use the search bar find ‘ChatGPT’ or click here.
- Tap on ‘to install.’
- A dialog will appear stating that the app will be installed automatically when it is available.
- The app will automatically download and install on your Android device as soon as it becomes available.
If you don’t want the app to automatically download to your device when it’s available, you can turn off the “automatic install” switch.
