New PTA Taxes on iPhone 12 Series (Updated March 2023)

The best thing about the iPhone is that it retains its value for a long time. Compared to an iPhone, smartphones from other brands usually do not have such endurance and reliability. You may also be surprised to know that even some older iPhones in Pakistan cost more than when they were first launched. This is because the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the main telecom regulator of our country, has recently increased taxes on imported smartphones. You can get a better idea of what we’re talking about by looking at the PTA loads on the iPhone 12 series in the table below:
New PTA Taxes on iPhone 12 Series (Updated March 2023)
iPhone models | PTA tax on passport (PKR) | PTA tax on CNIC (PKR) |
iPhone 12mini | 101,525 | 124,328 |
iPhone 12 | 113,665 | 137,682 |
iPhone 12 Pro | 129,823 | 155,455 |
iPhone 12 Pro Max | 134,825 | 160,958 |
Buying an iPhone has become a challenge due to high taxes in countries like Pakistan where inflation is rising. The weakening currency and dwindling reserves of the State Bank are, according to many experts, responsible for this increase. While we believe this is a positive move for retailers who import phones in bulk, it doesn’t seem fair to the casual user who imports phones for personal use. In addition, you can use our PTA tax calculator if you want to learn more about the taxes on a smartphone.
