Minister exposes poor network performance of telcos
As a citizen of Pakistan who recently traveled to different cities, I would say that telecom companies in Pakistan have a lot to improve. There are places (not far away) where you won’t even get service for voice calls or text messages. One such place is in Adhore in Mansehra district. A few other places are Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, etc. Moreover, even on the M1 highway, there are places where you don’t even have network coverage for voice calls and text messages. What is more shocking is that even in the capital, Islamabad, there are places where mobile internet performance is below par.
The National Telecoms Regulator (PTA) should visit the above places to conduct QoS surveys to get a clear picture. There are talks about launching 5G in Pakistan, but our telecom providers have been unable to provide basic quality network coverage in many regions of the country.
It was also recently noticed by Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications, Syed Amin Ul Haque. He said telcos should be severely penalized for failing to improve the quality of telecom services in the country.
During his briefing to the National Assembly Committee on IT & Telecom, the minister claimed that the telecom companies need to work diligently and change their attitude to improve the quality of telecom services in the country. He also demanded tougher fines for telcos that fail to take proper steps in this regard.
If you experience poor quality service in your area, let us know in the comment section!
