MediaTek launches Dimensity 7200 chipset

Like smartphones, chipmakers are also trying to bring new processors to market with improved specs and capabilities. When we talk about MediaTek, the advanced processor offerings actually consist of the flagship Dimensity 9000 series along with the higher mid-range Dimensity 8000 series. Then there is also a Dimensity 7000 series from MediaTek which is expected to be placed just below the higher mid-range Dimensity 8000 series processors. As the name implies, you can expect a mid-range offering here. The good news is that the company recently announced a chipset in the new Dimensity 7000 series called the Dimensity 7200. MediaTek Dimensity 7200 is actually the first chipset of the Dimensity 7000 family.

Dimension 7200: What else do we know?

Reports claim that the Dimensity 7200 is built on a second-generation TSMC 4nm process. We can say that it is right in line with flagship offerings like the Dimensity 9200. Talking about other core specs, the SoC is powered by an octa-core Armv9 CPU consisting of two Cortex-A710 cores clocked at 2.8 GHz and six Cortex-A510 cores. However, it is worth mentioning here that we do not yet have any information on the frequency. The newly introduced chipset also has an Arm Mali-G610 MC4 GPU. Moreover, it also supports 32-bit apps through the small CPU cores.

Other notable features include:

  • APU 650 machine learning silicon
  • a Release 16 sub-6GHz 5G modem (no mmWave here)
  • support for 144 Hz refresh rates at FHD+ screen resolutions
  • Variable speed AI based hatching
  • Support for Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E

The Dimensity 7200 has some great specs. Do you want to know? It also brings some pretty solid camera credentials, including:

  • Support for 200 MP single camera
  • 4K HDR video recording
  • simultaneous double video recording
  • motion-compensated noise reduction in low light

The point worth noting is that MediaTek has confirmed that the first phones with the new processor will arrive in the first quarter of 2023. However, we won’t be seeing any of these phones in North America. The company claims that we probably won’t see any Dimensity 7200 phones in the region “any time soon”.
